Texas State Senator Wendy Davis will be put to the test yet again after defeating a controversial abortion bill with a 10-hour filibuster on Tuesday. The legislation will be put to vote again on Monday and Davis has said she will continue to fight.
The bill, titled SB5, would shutter all but five of the state's 42 abortion clinics. Gov Rick Perry has been pushing for its enactment and called a special session for Monday to attempt to get it passed a second time.
The initial session ended in a vote 19-10 in favor of the bill, but the cheers for Davis were so loud they drowned out the count and were unable to make the midnight deadline.
