It might be the least likely meeting we can imagine: members of the Klu Klux Klan sat down with leaders from the NAACP… voluntarily.
Earlier this summer, the president of the Casper, Wyoming NAACP branch wrote a letter to the KKK in regard to reports of black men, almost always in the company of white women, getting beaten up. To his surprise, the Klan wrote back, and the two sides met, under heavy security.
John Abarr, a Klan organizer from Montana, filled out an NAACP membership application to get insight on their views, he said.
