Conservative talk-radio juggernaut Rush Limbaugh has a new target: Beyonce. On his show, Limbaugh accuses Bey having done a "180" on women's rights, saying that her new single, "Bow Down/I Been On" is disempowering to women -- specifically, that she has started entreating them show obeisance to their husbands by bowing down.
I took some time to live my life
But don’t think I’m just his little wife
Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted
This my shit, bow down bitches.
A literal reading would suggest that Beyonce is actually demanding that "bitches" of the world, both women and men-bitches, bow down to her. Which may be arrogant, but it's not submissive.
Per Rush, the switch can be attributed to her marriage to Jay-Z. As he puts it, She “married the rich guy, and now she understand that it’s worth it to bow down, and now she is passing on this advice.”
While it's difficult to state precisely, Beyonce's 2007 income (she married J in '08) was estimated by People Magazine at $54 million. Which, while admittedly less than Jay-Z, hardly made her a pauper.
