Paris Fashion Week: Step Team Models, Young Gun Designers & Selfie-Inspired Streetwear... Oh My

By Emily Sher

Three names from Paris Fashion Week are on every fashionista's lips: Rick Owens, Balenciaga and Undercover. Each Spring/Summer collection held a buzzy runway show and sparked debate, awe or just plain excitement. A quick peek below:

Rick Owens literally stepped out of the box for his most recent fashion show. The Californian-turned-Parisian replaced boring models with a fierce step team wearing mean-mugging faces to match. Is it commentary on the pervasiveness of stick-thin, white models on the runway? A racist/offensive move? The debate continues but one thing's for certain: this is the most talked about show of the season.

Alexander Wang is a beloved fashion prodigy, launching a label in his own name after just two years at Parsons. Wang continued his ascent when he was named Creative Director for the storied French fashion house Balenciaga in November 2012 and has yet to disappoint. The designer's second collection for the label has nods to founder Cristóbal Balenciaga while staying true to his own tougher street style aesthetic.

Social media has infiltrated mass culture whether it be hashtags covering TV screens or rappers spitting lines about Instagram. Designer Jun Takahashi took it one step further and made the "selfie" t-shirt a thing in Underground's Spring 2014 collection.
