In addition to extreme poverty and living under an all-powerful dictator, North Korean citizens are dealing with a crystal meth epidemic. Called 'bingdu' or ice, meth has been produced in state-run factories in the past but now citizens are cooking and using on their own.
According to a report in he North Korean Review, about half of the population is addicted. The drug is being used as a cure for everything from hunger to cancer since medicine is scarce.
