NFL Head Injury Settlement: League To Pay $765 Million

So, this might surprise you, but football -- a sport where giant men run into one another headfirst -- is bad for your head. Today, the NFL took a big step towards recognizing its liability for the risks of football by agreeing to pay $765 million to former players with head injuries. 

The money will go to a fund for retired players who can show that, due to league play, they have severe cognitive impairment. The settlement, which covers lawsuits filed by 4,500 players, also earmarks $10 million for education and research into head-injury prevention.
