From Cindy Crawford to Gisele, if there's a supermodel with a household name, it's likely because of John Casablancas. The founder of Elite Model Management and a shaping force in the world of modeling in the 20th century died Saturday.
Casablancas founded Elite in 1972, and is often credited for ushering in the modern concept of the super-model. The most successful of the women he worked with became media personalities -- wealthy and famous in their own rights.
Casablancas was in Rio de Janeiro when he died where he was being treated for cancer.
