FedEx Is Overnighting A 300-Pound Sea Turtle To Vegas

More About This Story

OD, 320-Pound Sea Turtle, FedExed To Las Vegas

Now you can add "300-pound living sea turtle" to the ever-expanding list of things that FedEx will overnight you.

OD - short for Ocean Diver - is an endangered green sea turtle with a collapsed lung. The lung keeps him from being able to be released back into the wild, and so for the past 5 years, since he was found, he's been living at a marine center in Florida.

His defect would throw off OD's balance, causing him to float on his side. To remedy this, his caretakers have affixed weights to his shell, which straightens him out and lets him dive. Now that OD's been treated, it's time for him to find a new home. For this turtle, that means Vegas.

OD is headed to the Mandalay Bay Resort, a luxury resort on the Vegas strip that has a giant, 22-feet deep aquarium where he can live out the rest of his days. And there might be a lot of them: green sea turtles can live up to 100 years.

To get him there, FedEx is providing him a free trip on a private plane.
