As a little girl obsessed with gaming, you're often stuck playing male characters, since for the vast majority of games, that's all that's available. Unless you're lucky enough to have a dad who's a game developer with a penchant for hacking and a feminist streak.

Mike Mika, game developer by day, devoted dad by night, was asked by his 3-year-old daughter, a budding young gamer, why she couldn't play one of her favorite games, Donkey Kong, as a female character. He decided to just make it happen.

Mika published the full story of the hack on Wire, and also published a DK Pauline Patch so you can play his version at home. A snippet of what it looks like to play the game as Pauline is above.
