France Passes Gay Marriage Bill, Violent Protestors & Water Cannons In Tow

France has become the 14th country to legalize same sex marriage, but it didn't get there without quite a battle. For weeks, anti-gay marriage protests have surged and sometimes resulted in violent, homophobic attacks.

The law was approved the French parliament on Tuesday and will be signed into law by Francoise Hollande.

A Dutch national, Wilfred de Bruijn, is one of the victims of the attacks. He says he was walking arm-in-arm with his boyfriend in Paris when he was beaten. De Bruijn posted his picture on Facebook with the caption "This is the face of homophobia," and it went viral internationally.
