It sounded like a paranoid conspiracy theory just a couple years ago, but the FAA is saying it expects thousands of unmanned aircraft to be flying in the next couple years over U.S. soil. Their stated intention is stuff like border security and search and rescue, but privacy advocates have worried about abuse. In response, more than 40 states have passed legislation banning warrantless spying on US citizens from unmanned drones. The future = now.
