Debra Milke was convicted in 1990 of killing her 4-year-old son Christopher, supposedly to reap the $5,000 from his life insurance. On Friday, however, the 49-year-old was released after evidence was found questionable.
Milke escaped her death sentence after a detective's testimony was found to be questionable. His testimony that Milke confessed was a key part of the prosecution's case. A judge has now overturned her conviction, but she still faces a new trial in Arizona.
Milke is accused of taking her son to the mall in December of 1989 with the pretense of seeing Santa Claus. She then supposedly handed him over to two men who shot him execution style.
